6 ways to build an enduring partnership that will engender consumer trust

Many property professionals would agree that the current level of the consumer trust in our industry is low.

Most customers don’t understand the land and building process and believe that a house and land package is actually one transaction. There are bad news stories in mainstream media and the rumour mill is in overdrive.

So, how can developers and builders work together to claw back some badly needed confidence in the Victorian market?

  1. Have a documented, disciplined strategy. This requires full business buy-in, resources (people and money) and a willingness to negotiate.

  2. As with any strategy, it must contain actions, responsibilities, deadlines and KPIs to have any substance. Being good at having a coffee will not cut it.

  3. Work with a handful of partners. Try and perfect these relationships first, then add others into the mix. You can’t be all things to all people, all at once.

  4. Develop an annual business plan with each partner. Share business goals and consumer insights. Discuss ways to make the transaction easier for your shared customer.

  5. Measure the performance of the strategy and don’t be afraid to cut loose partners whose hearts are not really in it.

  6. Pick a customer issue and don’t be afraid to have a robust discussion about how to eliminate the frustration. Pointing fingers won’t help – you’re in this together!
